Not too big, not too small !
VW Tiguan SE 4Motion (2009)
The VW Tiguan SE 4Motion is a brand new model for the 2009 VW line-up, offering excellent value and sporty performance for its segment. The new Tiguan SE 4Motion goes head to head with the established BMW X3 as well as the recently launched Mercedes-Benz GLK series compact SUV’s. The lineage resemblance with its larger sibling, the Touareg is there, as well as all the well thought out features this larger SUV has, yet in a size that is more compact, thus easier to live with on a day to day basis.
The front of the Tiguan SE 4Motion looks modern and distinctive with its angled headlights as well as its hood creases and front fender treatment. Inside its typical VW, that is to say, clean, modern and efficient. There are plenty of cubby holes and storage areas in order to keep a comfortable and safe interior environment. There is a huge panoramic sun-roof with power sun-shade that really makes the interior look and feel bright and airy. Driver and front passenger seats are sporty yet quite comfortable. Rear seating is fine for two, tight for three. Cargo room is on par with small SUV’s. Rear seats are foldable, giving additional cargo space for over-sized items. The Tiguan SE 4Motion has VW’s version of stability control called ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program) as well as multi-area air bags, giving the Tiguan SE 4Motion additional safety benefits under all driving conditions. There is a handy rear back-up camera system, which automatically activates upon selecting reverse gear, offering a clear and sharp wide angle image even at night. This nice touch, now becoming more common in most vehicles is definitely worth its weight in gold when getting into a tight parallel parking space.
VW got it right when they said their new Tiguan is the GTI of SUV’s. The feedback from the steering and brakes is similar to that of the GTI’s. Acceleration is excellent, giving the driver a feeling of confidence and control. The driving experience in the Tiguan is rewarding and sporty. Fuel economy was quite good for a compact SUV, giving an observed average of 23 MPG in mixed driving conditions. VW has given the driver a myriad of information sources from the high resolution multi-function touch button display that shows sound system and navigation details as well as the center dash display of direction, trip averages, fuel economy and distance to destination.
