Luxurious Perfection !
Lexus LS460 (2008)
The new LS460 is the latest generation of the full sized LS line of Lexus and it once again raises the bar for all competing luxury brands.
The re-design, which occurred for the 2007 model year is noticeable yet subtle. The lines, grille and size are evolutionary. The rear end seems to have gravitated towards what BMW started with their current 7 Series, a high end, squared off trunk line, which resembles somewhat the Seven’s “The Bangle Rear” after BMW’s lead designed Chris Bangle. Mercedes-Benz has also joined the band-wagon with their S class trunk design as well.
Those that are moving up from a previous generation LS will feel right at home. All of the appointments, controls and features are enhanced or improved. There is one “oh wow” optional feature available on the new LS. The self parking option can either park parallel or backwards into a stall. This is great but honestly, by the time you put in the adjustments for the parking area someone I’m sure, would have taken your spot.
Nevertheless, its fun to show off how this technology works. Another nice feature is the hold button on the steering wheel. Simply press this and once you have come to a full stop, take your foot off the brake. The car is still stopped with the brake lights on but no need to keep holding the brake pedal! To disengage, simply touch the accelerator and you are moving again.
There is a large, center mounted touch screen multi-function display that controls climate, sound, navigation and parking aid. Its fairly intuitive but you do need to spend some time with it in order to feel comfortable with its many uses.
Driving the LS is sheer luxury and refinement. There is hardly a sound from the engine, even under full acceleration. The steering and brakes felt perfect for this type of car. We liked the complete blend of how everything works together to bring you a car that epitomizes all of the positive adjectives you may think of when describing what a luxury car should be.
Need more room in the rear ? Then go for the L. This longer version gives you approximately six additional inches in the back seat area. Everything else remains the same.
