The 2007 Lexus IS350 and its smaller engine IS250 are the second generation of the smallest of the Lexus models. Everything changed from the 1st generation model and it shows.
The new IS is bigger, wider, and more comfortable than the 1st generation IS300 it replaces. Lexus is clearly targeting the BMW 3 Series as the one to beat and they have come very, very close.
Outside you notice the Lexus family resemblance, elegant, yet understated. Inside, you are greeted by an interior that is a sanctuary of harmony and quality. Everything is exactly as you would expect it. Details abound, from the smart key feature, to the smart audio system when selecting music styles. The IS makes you feel good every time you drive it.
The interior design is now more like the current generation models from Lexus. We specially liked features such as the LED reading and floor accent lighting in addition to the smart key option.
On the highway the IS350 has muscle; simply press the “go” pedal and it does just that. The IS250 is less powerful but still very capable, especially if you are looking for better fuel economy and a lower purchase cost. The navigation system is much easier to use, although you do need to plan on spending some time entering the exact, correct address to where you want to go. The feel of the steering, brakes and transmission is exactly as expected from a Lexus. Steering paddle shifters are also nice, especially when you feel in a sporty mood, simply slide the gear selector to “S” and now you control the shifts.
Rear seats are comfortable but snug, typical for a car this size. Trunk is roomy and well appointed, including carpeting and a convenient small parcel net.
The IS series cars from Lexus are excellent all around small sedans. With its 30+ MPG on the highway, (for the IS250) a 450 mile range is well within reach between fill ups.
